The Course in Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting is a nationally accredited course and consists of 2 Units of Competency, participants who complete both units of competency can then register to be an approved as a Type 1 child car restraint fitter and provide advice and restraint fitting services to the community. This course is intended to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to perform the following tasks associated with the use of child car restraints (restraints):

Unit of Competency One

  • Give advice and consumer information regarding the different types of restraints and their suitability for use according to the child’s age and size.
  • Give advice on the legal requirements and the Australian Standard for restraint use and related issues.
  • Provide information regarding the consequences of non-use of restraints or inappropriate use of restraints and the need to restrain every child every trip.

Unit of Competency Two develops the above information and also:

  • Give advice and consumer information regarding the correct installation and use of restraints.
  • Inspect the existing installation of restraints in vehicles and refer where necessary.
  • Correctly fit restraints in vehicles.

This qualification will give individuals the opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge through developing a deeper understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements and how they apply to the roles and responsibilities of an Elected Member. 

The Diploma course explores a wide range of topics such as financial reports and budgets, dealing with conflict, community leadership and advocacy, strategic decision making, asset management and understanding land use and local planning schemes. 

The Diploma of Local Government – Elected Member is nationally recognised within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) and consists of 10 Units of Competency (UoC), six (6) core and four (4) elective UoC.
